This weekend my friend turned 50 and his wife invited friends and family over to celebrate his birthday with him. It was great to see his face when he came home and found us all there, but you could tell when we toasted to the big 5-0 he seemed to be a little shocked to have reached this particular milestone.
I talked to him about it and he told me he doesn’t feel a day over 30, and he doesn’t know how...

It’s been an extremely hot dry season and we just haven’t been seeing the rains we’re accustomed to. Water restrictions are in effect, and the hills… the hills everywhere are burning.
Yesterday I spent the day with some friends at their house on a hill, and you could see the evidence of bush fires all around.
The hill behind their house shows a definite line of burnt vegetation next to...

I was trying to put together a little slideshow for a family member the other day, and came across this site:
Animoto.com
They take the photos you upload, the music you select or upload, and put them together with some cool video editing techniques to take the work out of it for you. So you can turn out something like this in under 10 minutes like I did.
Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

Hello everyone, I am Dumb Mom (yes, THE Dumb Mom), and I’m here representing the bestes blog eva parenting BY dummies.
I have been an active member of the blogging community since December, 2008, which means I am coming up on my 18 month blog-a-versary.

Certain sounds, or sights will bring back memories so strong that I’ll remember how I felt, how things smelt…. Almost as if I’ve literally been transported back to a different time.
When I was pregnant with my second boy, my husband got Dengue Fever and had to be admitted to hospital for days. His platelet count was very low and it was a really scary ordeal. I had my 2yr old son at home so I...
It’s been a while since my last SIMC post, but I’m back in a big way (I think!)
There’s so much history around us that we Trinis take for granted, myself included. It’s often not that we’re not interested in finding out more about our history and culture, but that it takes time to find the places to go and the people who know the stories to tell.
That’s part of the reason I joined...
My kids are on vacation this week – Easter holidays. We have grand plans of taking everyone turtle watching at the beach. I really hope that happens because this is the perfect time of the year for it.
The endangered leatherback turtle nests here, and returns to the same nesting grounds where it was hatched to lay its own eggs each year. These massive reptiles are hunted for their meat, which I hate. Aside...

I have long been lamenting the dwindling interest in historical sites and events in my area. Places that hold memories of my childhood where I was in wonder at this world around me. Places that this new generation is missing, stuck behind a Wii or TV.
How to reach out and get them out there? Somebody has to do something. What can I do? Ideas were “bandied” about and, there being strength in numbers, an...

I woke up on Saturday morning and asked myself if it was possible that Friday had really happened.
I felt tumbled by the biggest waves in the roughest surf. Amazed to come out whole on the other end. But physically weary and emotionally drained, while feeling a sense of everything around me being so distant.
One after the other the waves had hit.
The first woke me up to a reality that I know I’ve been choosing...

Remember this song? Blind Melon’s “No Rain” with the little bumblebee girl?
I never got that video. Or the song really. But it’s stuck in my head right now.
On repeat.
Over and over.
I’m thinking it could be because of this.
My lawn is dead. Some of it will come back once the rains come. Whenever that might be…
It’s been so long since its rained that...
